open and high-field MRI services at one convenient location.

Imaging Center, a $2 million, 8,000 square-foot addition to Robinwood
Medical Center. The state-of-the-art technology includes mammography,
DEXA, stereotactic and ultrasound-guided biopsies, and the first 4-D
Ultrasound in the area.
June 2002: DIS opens a new
center at Hub Plaza on Eastern Boulevard featuring Ultrasound, General
Radiology, and the premier GE Signa OpenSpeed .7T MRI scanner, providing
high image quality and speed. DIS is the only provider in Hagerstown
to offer the .7T, the most powerful open scanner available.
June 2001: DIS introduces
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) scanning for diagnosis and staging
of cancer. Previously, many Hagerstown patients traveled as far as
Baltimore or Washington, D.C. for this service.
April 2001: DIS installs the
first multi-detector Computerized Tomography (CT) in Hagerstown, capable
of providing faster scans and advanced scanning techniques. The speed
of the unit improves imaging quality and patient comfort.
February
1999: DIS introduces the Picture
Archiving Communication System (PACS)
when less than 10% of the nation had it available. This filmless interpretation
and storage of all digital studies greatly improves image management,
report turn around time, image availability for physicians
and the team approach
to care.
